If you have not been up there. Stage at the cemetary where 05kingquad listed. Head west on the ATV. Take a left about a 1/4 mile before Columbine CG. When you get to the T-intersection head right on Pisgah Rd / Yankee Hill. This will lead to a network of trails that go in many different directions off of Yankee Hill.

The other roads close to the cemetary are county roads which don't allow ATVs.

Another place to ride is south of Idaho Springs off of Hwy 103. Stage at mile marker 5 on the east side of the road. Take Peru Creek rd. Mind your speed as this is a neighborhood rd but does access a great network of trails around Saxon Mtn.

My wife and I have lived in Westcliffe for the last 14 years. I don't think the Westcliffe area has what you are looking for in riding opportunities. While there are several trails in the area, all require trailering your machines to the staging area. To my knowledge, there are no areas where you can camp with a toyhauler and ride out. Almost all land is farm/ranch and/or private homes. The only camping areas available are privately owned or Forest Service. The trails in the valley are Hermit Road (an up and back), Billy Humble Road (an up and back), Medano Pass (a short up and back due to it's connection to the Sand Dunes National Monument area) and a portion of the Rainbow Trail. There are several other trails in the outlying surrounding area, but they also require trailering to the staging areas. I don't know where you are from, but if you want an area for your toyhauler, you may consider Taylor Park or the Saquache area in the San Luis Valley. If you have any other questions, PM me and I'll try to answer them...Gary from Westcliffe..

If you want some sand still with your mountain views you can get your fix up in Walden Sand Dunes area. There are also trails that you can ride. If you want just straight out trail area there are other areas that have more to take in. You said two weeks so you might consider the Tin Cup area as it has more trail area. Hope this helps

John..My wife and I started riding with an '08 Polaris Touring. We recently purchased a 2012 Polaris 550 EPS for her. The Model T's are great machines and very comfortable and stable on the trails. The drawback is that you only have one machine and if you don't have anyone to ride with, you could get in trouble. Now with 2, if we want to ride by ourselves, we have a backup if problems arise. We also considered a RZR instead of her 550, but then again, we would only have one machine. If you consider a SxS, look closely at the 50" Trail model RZR (the only SxS made that is 50" wide) as a number of the trails we have ridden have 50" width limits. You don't want to get caught riding an oversized machine on a trail. I've included 2 links for the Taylor Park area and the St Elmo store, both rent ATV's and, I believe, SxS's. As was suggested, if you can, try both on "for size". Also, there is a link to pics of our "rides". Good luck in your search....Gary

https://picasaweb.google.com/whisperingpine1/OurRides#
http://www.taylorparktradingpost.com/
http://st-elmo.com/

Hello everyone. My name is John Lane and I am new to the forum. I joined in order to connect and communicate, as I am on the Board of Directors for the Colorado Off-Highway Vehicle Coalition. It is my job on the Board to create, set-up and run-off events that bring everyone together for the good of the riding and driving sports that we love.

This year, COHVCO is partnering with the city of Meeker and Rio Blanco County to run off a phenomenal event on the backside of the 4th of July. If you haven't experienced the trail system in the Meeker area and can attend, you will be amazed at the country you can cover and the sights you can see. Not to mention the awesome 4th of July celebration that Meeker runs off. There are great events, concerts, dances, rodeo, etc....for evening fun, after a great day of riding.

There will be a small registration fee to support COHVCO for trail maintenance and the legislative fights to keep our trails open. But you will also be treated to amazing riding, clinics, social fun and food.

If you are interested, please send me an email: john@rmariders.org

The flier below will also give you some information.

Thanks!!!!
