Pitkin over Weekend
05/26/9 at 11:39:23

I made it back.

Was a really different, rainy, foggy weekend. The coldest I saw on the thermometer was 40 deg. yesterday morning at 6:00, the warmest was about 54 rainy degrees. The only time I saw the sun was at about 7:30 yesterday morning for about 5 min. Did I happen to mention all the darn rain??? Not sure how much it rained, but it rained most all the day Sat. & Sun.

Saturday afternoon late, we took the pickup and made it right at 9 miles up Cumberland Pass road. I notice they have closed the upper turnoff for Napoleon Pass. Finally Sunday afternoon it quit raining enough for us to go out on the ATV's. We made it up to the turnoff for Hancock Pass on the Alpine Tunnel road. Going back to cabin we got rained/sleeted on.

Trip out was rather exciting as we were going over the pass. Along about the turnoff for the Monarch Ski Resort we ran into a wall of fog so thick that 20 mph was almost to fast. I had 2 vehicles behind me and am struggling along with hardly anything to see but a very faint while line on the side of road. We get up the road a ways and there is a passing lane, so I pull over and the 2 idiots behind me go blasting by. As soon as my headlights hit their mirrors they slam on the brakes. I stayed right on their tail till the top. Once over the top the wall disappeared and it was clear to the bottom. Coming home yesterday, we get to between La Junta & Las Animas and run into the rain. Las Animas had water about 6" deep in spots. I followed a semi thru town and he was having fun running thru the deep water. At about Hasty, it was raining really hard and had trouble seeing were we were going.
