What state has strongest ATV culture
03/07/10 at 02:15:50

I have been trying to nail down this topic, but it is not easy to find information on it. I have read articles in newspapers in places like
Minnesota, and it seems MN ATV riders are in heated battle with enviros. It seems Connecticut doesn't allow ATVs on any public lands.
Still I know there most be ATV friendly states, or regions out there.
I remember reading a post in a forum in which the author said people
in Arizona ride their ATVs everywhere. That sounds like a state with
a strong ATV culture. I am trying to gather this information because
I plan to relocate soon. Plus I am curious overall about where ATVs
are most popular. Thanks.

Although there seems to be a lot of ATV'ers in Pa, there are few free places to ride which is included with the Pa Registration.  What I seen of the free places, they are a waste of my time driving to them, then the zig zagging back and fourth.

I pay $100 a year to ride a local coal companies property, 20,000 plus acres.  Takes me 30 minutes to get there once I have my atv loaded.

If you feel lucky you can run at your own risk illegally.  My days of running are gone.  I try hard not to trespass, I'm more then happy the permit only costs $100, hassle free riding that pays for itself at least for me.

Last 3 years I hauled my ATV to Taylor Park, this year will be the 4th time.  Is it worth it???  IMHO although the haul is long, it is worth the time.  Someday if I make it to retirement, I hope to move out there.

thanks, I plan to retire someday, too. Although I am only 49 right now.
Nevertheless, I am single, I got no kids, and no parents to care for.
So I am free to move wherever I want. I currently drive a truck locally in Denver,
but have a pretty nice savings account so I am not worried about quitting and moving somewhere new even if it's a small town. Here is the main reason for my post: I want to find a new location where I can be in the
THICK of ATV riding opportunity. I have been working long and hard on
this and as you might imagine my eyes hurt. It would have to be a location where I could live year-round, I am not interested in Phoenix because of the intense summer heat. Here are a few ideas I have come up with. There seems
to be a lot of ATV parks in the four state region of KY, WV, NC, and TN.
I could, for example, live in Bristol, TN, and have access to this whole region. But perhaps ATV parks are not the same as ATV trail riding???
Also it seems Elko, NV is surrounded by lots of trail riding opportunity.
Grand Junction, CO I would bet would be a good location to live. Currently I live in Denver.
But, one, the city is too big for my taste, and, two, the riding opportunities
are too far away, imo. If you could help me come up with more ideas of
places centrally located for lots of ATV trails, I would appreciate it very much.
I have heard WI is very ATV friendly, too.

You better head to Richfield, Utah, or one of the smaller towns in that area. There you will be surrounded by well over 2000 miles of ATV routes, in all directions. You can ride from your house. You will also be close to warmer and drier areas for winter time riding.

Fifty, wisconsin is atv friendly but on the same token there are very cold temps in the winter time like -20 or lower at times. During the summer months it is very nice with huge mosquitoes.
I have done a lot of riding in wi, have been to idaho 5 times oregon 2 times and colorado 1 time and going back this summer. Colorado has been my favorite so far.

yeah I did see Richfield on the map, it looks quite small, but it would definitely be a good place to live if rental housing were affordable and
I could get a job to pay the rent. I am definitely going to look closer
at Richfield, it seems to be the biggest town on the trail system.

Utah for sure. Colorado has some great places you should check out before you move, but the riding season is too short. Taylor Park area has the largest trail system in Colorado, but it continues to shrink as they close more and more trails down.  Richfield is right on the Paiute, which I believe is the largest ATV trail system in the world. And unlike Colorado, Utah is extremely ATV friendly and make you feel welcome. It's a small town, good luck finding a job.
